Swatch: Nubar Brilliant

22 May

Hello

Well this week has been shaping up pretty well! I got my first Nubar nail polish this week in a colour called Brilliant, which is a very undeniably holo pale pink. It’s so pale that it almost looks like I’m not really wearing polish when I quickly glance at my hands which is a bit strange.

This polish needed FOUR (count em, four) coats and even then I’m not fully satisfied with it. I do really like the colour and holo effect though so I’ll have to live with it I guess. I’ve never really been a fan of holo polishes but I think I’ve been converted? There is something just so dainty about this colour that I’m attracted to..

Swatch: Kleancolor Neon Pink

20 May

Hello

Just a swatch for this fine Monday! I had some trouble taking a photo of this nail polish to truly reflect the colour that it is in real life. It’s truly a VERY neon pink. Like.. Wow! So neon! I had to tinker around with one of the photos in a photo editing app to get a colour that was more true to real life as possible. However, I really don’t like how the edited photo makes my hand look so orangey/ yellowy tan… Hmmm… Just can’t win!

I used two coats of this bad boy and a fast drying top coat since it is past my bedtime right now. I’m pleased with this colour and would like to wear it on a regular basis. Plus, it’s a cheapie from the 1, 2, 3 Dollar shop!

Hot Pink with Glitter Tips

19 May

Hello

I feel like it’s been a while! Well it’s been one helluva week, I must say! My boyfriends birthday was on Thursday and I planned a surprise party for Saturday night which went off without a hitch! He really had no idea that it was coming so I succeeded! Woo! I’ve also been in training this week (and for the next couple of weeks coming up too) so I’m actually more exhausted than when I’m just doing my regular job. Oh the life of a public servant aye?

Any who, onto the pretty manicure which is just so pink and glittery and girlie it just makes my insides leap out and sing! Hehehe! I started off which two generous coats of Butter London Primrose Hill Picnic which is a brilliant hot pink that I got for valentines day this year and went over the tips with Sally Hansen Gem Crush in Lady Luck. This is a pretty compacted magenta glitter with some bigger silver hex glitters. It gives good coverage, as you can probably see on the accent nail.

I really love this look I’m always a fan of glitter and pink so together I’m pretty much in nail polish heaven. Ahhh some pleasures in life are so simple.

Max Factor Lilac Lace

15 May

Hello

Pretty much just a swatch again today. I decided to use one of the other Max Factor polishes I got on the weekend called Lilac Lace.

The colour is just too pretty in the bottle and really translates onto the nail. I’m really happy with this polish! Again, the formula was great. This one is almost a one coater, as in, if you are generous enough on the first coat it could be.

The photo of the polish on its own is without a top coat. This polish is reeeally quite shiny on its own which is great! However, to me, this doesn’t really matter because I always use a fast drying top coat (more out of habit and to speed things up a little – after all I do have other things to do, like baking).

I tried out a simple flower and dot design on one nail which turned out better than I expected. The flower was simple enough – just a ring of dots then joined together in the middle and a very small dot right in the centre in the colour of the base nail.

Grey and Glitter

13 May

Hello

Ahhh Mondays. Is there anything good about them? I’m sure there is but I just can’t think of it right now. Yay to a 12 hour day tomorrow.. Woohoo overtime. At least I will have pretty nails to get me through?

I have a double swatch post for you today with one of the new Max Factor polishes I got on the weekend and an OPI polish that I got for my birthday and still hasn’t tried out (how bad is that?!) from the Mariah Carey collection.

I decided to try out Opal by Max Factor which I scored for $5.00 since K-Mart was having a sale for $10.00 off all Max Factor products. I wish I got more than the three polishes that I got because I am very happy with this polish! Two coats was more than sufficient for excellent coverage and the colour looks great! In the bottle it looks almost white but on my nail it is more of a grey colour. There is a nice shimmer to this polish which is hard to capture.

I topped it off with a coat of OPI Pink Yet Lavender. The name I don’t really like but the polish.. Is pink and silver glitter so am I really going to complain? I like the way it looks over Opal and am keen to try it over a darker colour too. I tried it with two coats and as always I prefer one coat better. I always take it a step too far.. Sigh! Such is life right? Do you like it better with one or two coats of glitter?

Pretty Shabby Chic Nails

11 May

Hello

Well happy Saturday to you all! I have tried to be lazy today but that just was never going to happen.. I went shopping (for birthday presents) and bought a whole bunch of new clothes and Max Factor polishes.

The other day I wanted to revisit the whole vintage floral nail art look on a base colour that I recently got, OPI gargantuan green grape. I always love the way this type of manicure looks and it is actually so easy to do! I guess once you’ve done it, every time you revisit it gets easier to do? What are your favourite colour combinations for this kind of manicure?

Pink Plaid/Argyle Nail Art

9 May

Hello

I’m a big fan of the movie Mean Girls and on Wednesdays at work we (me and my friend) wear pink. I wore this pink manicure on Wednesday and just wanted to share it with you. I’ve done a look like this before but in blue and I think I much prefer it in pink.. But it’s no secret that I love my pink polishes.

I used OPI That’s Hot! Pink as the base colour which is one of my all time favourite polishes ever.
